Baliwag, Bulacan – The Local Government of Baliwag ended celebrations for the 286th Founding Anniversary of Baliuag as an independent pueblo. Baliuag used to be part of Quinga or now known as Plaridel.
In 1732, Baliuag was founded by the Augustinian Friars by establishing a Parish Church in honor of St. Augustine. Baliuag since then has become a trading center due to its strategic location. It is as they say a crossroads or junction of seven roads.
Baliuag now is a regional center in the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2025. In 2016 Baliwag was at 960th place in the competitiveness index. Mayor Ferdie Estrella overturned this in one year, jumping hundreds of notches to 62nd in 2017 and 9th in 2018. The municipality is a trading powerhouse and 4th Largest Palay harvester and a significant livestock and poultry business sector.
The activities for the Buntal Festival were trimmed down as it was overshadowed by the recent midterm elections where Mayor Ferdie Estrella was re-elected by a landslide victory. As usual, the celebration’s highlights were the Dangal ng Baliwag 2019, the Institutional Partner’s Night, Barangay Bida, Farmer’s Day and Luminosity Concert.
