Entrepreneurial Development Training conducted for Skills Training Program Beneficiaries


The two day Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) was conducted by the Municipality of  Baliwag thru the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) last October 11 & 12, 2017 at the Municipal Conference Room, 2ndFlr, Municipal Annex Bldg., Bagong Nayon, Baliwag, Bulacan. The first day of the EDT was attended by the beneficiaries, mainly from the Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Meat Processing, Soap, Fabric Conditioner, Perfume, and Dishwashing Liquid Making, Massage Therapy and Foot Spa with Manicure & Pedicure, and Dressmaking.  This is in preparation for all the beneficiaries as they are scheduled to receive starter kits from the Municipality of Baliwag and Department of Labor and Employment.

Mr. Nedy Roxas – PESO Consultant, warmly gave his opening remarks and mention how this training would be beneficial as a way to start their own business. “Maswerte kayo dahil ang ating Mayor Ferdie Estrella ay masipag na nakikipagtulungan sa DOLE Bulacan para mabigyan ang mamamayan ng Baliwag ng mga programa na makakatulong para tayo ay kumita at magkaroon ng sariling kabuhayan.” – he added.

Mr. Lauro S. Villanueva – Senior Labor and Employment Officer from DOLE Bulacan was invited as the resource speaker. He started by briefly discussing why business entrepreneurship is very important.  He also provided useful tips that they can use as future entrepreneurs.  According to him, basic bookkeeping is important in every transaction. He also shared key factors why consumers are hesitant to purchase products.  In addition, he taught the participants how to properly market the products by means of branding, good packaging and promotions. “Kailangan natin maging mahusay na negosyante para maging malago at maganda ang ating negosyo, nakasuporta kami (DOLE) sa mga tulong na inyong kakailanganin.”– he added.

The second day of the EDT was attended by the beneficiaries from the Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Meat Processing, and Soap, Fabric Conditioner, Perfume, and Dishwashing Liquid Making.  Mr. Mikko Alfonso – Project Development Officer I, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) discussed “Expanding One’s Business through Online Marketing.”  According to Mr. Alfonso, online marketing is the key to helping one’s small business to grow.  Building a website to developing an online brand are some of the powerful ways in which digital marketing strategies can help to connect with new customers, generate leads and sell their products or services more efficiently.  With the aid of social media, products can be introduced to a wider customer/client.  He also shared some techniques that everybody must know before they start to sell online.

The afternoon session was facilitated by the representatives from the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO).  Mr. Lexter Catalan – Project Development Officer II, PCEDO discussed the topic “Labeling and Packaging Trends and Innovation.” As discussed by Mr. Catalan, the packaging of a product to include the graphic and physical design is very important.  Products must be packaged well to increase shelf life especially for food products and ultimately improve its marketability. Ms. Camille F. Madrazo – Project Development Officer I, PCEDO discussed the Food and Drugs – License to Operate: Online Application on Monitoring Assistance. Part of Ms. Madrazo’s discussion is the Republic Act 10611: Implementing Rules and Regulations of Food Safety Act 201.  This act is to strengthen the Food Safety Regulatory in the country to protect consumer health and facilitate market access of local and food products, and for other purposes.

The two day training is very beneficial to the participants as they are soon to start their respective enterprises.  The Municipality of Baliwag thru the leadership of Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella fully supports all capability development programs intended to those who want to start a business.
