Orientation of OWWA and PESO Services for the Overseas Filipino Workers

The Municipality of Baliwag under the leadership of Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella recognizes the sacrifices of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to provide for their respective families. The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Baliwag is tasked to profile active and returning OFWs including their immediate family members. Thru the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), an Orientation for OWWA Services was held last October 20, 2017 at the Baliwag Star Arena, Pagala, Baliwag, Bulacan. It was attended by 47 individuals thru their respective barangay captains.  This event also aims to:

  • Familiarize the OFWs and their family members of the programs and services of OWWA and PESO that they may avail;
  • Facilitate the profiling of the OFWs in each barangay to identify the right programs and services that PESO can offer;
  • Put up an OFW Desk at PESOBaliwag; &
  • Revive the OFW Family Circle

The event was formally opened with an opening remarks from Ms. Jennelyn G. Marcelo, OIC-PESO Manager. She also took the opportunity to discuss various employment programs for the Baliwagenyos such asreferral and placement, employment guidance and counseling, local recruitment activity/special recruitment activity and skills training and livelihood programs and other special programs like job fairs and one stop shop processing.  She also encouraged them to avail the Mobile Passport Service as it will prioritize OFWs or those who are interested to work overseas.

Ms. MaribethNucup, Family Welfare Officer-OWWA,discussed what benefits that they may avail by being a member of the institution.  OWWA is a lead government agency tasked to protect and promote the welfare and well-being of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), an attached agency of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and a membership institution. Several scholarship programs for OFWs and their dependents were discussed.

In addition, reintegration programs such as enterprise development and loan program were also shared by Ms. Nucup and other benefits for OWWA members.

The Municipality of Baliwag aims to revive the OFW Family Circle.  This organization will provide several opportunities for OFWs and their dependents to engage in various social interventions that would enhance their capabilities and enrich their present social and economic status. Moreover, it has a goal of building a common understanding of the current state, conditions and challenges as well as to identify the OFC’s core strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats.  In the next coming days, PESO Baliwag will coordinate to the barangays to encourage the establishment of OFW Family Circle in the barangay level and eventually elect officers in the municipal level.

A productive afternoon indeed!  To all Baliwagenyos who wants to avail the services of OWWA, rest assured that PESO Baliwag will always be ready to assist you.
