The Municipality of Baliwag under the leadership of Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella coordinated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to commemorate the Labor Day by conducting a JOBS AND BUSINESS FAIR with the theme “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”  held at The Event Center, SM City Baliwag, Bulacan.  This event is also in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Youth, Sports, Employment and Development Office (PYSEDO), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and SM City Baliwag.

This activity is a breakthrough in the LGU because it does not only featured job vacancies or TRABAHO but also included NEGOSYO and KABUHAYAN via its partnership with   DTI.  Representative from the DTI, Librada Estrella advocated entrepreneurial and/or business opportunities to the jobseekers.

This momentous event was graced by no less than the Governor of the Province of Bulacan, Honorable Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado.  Ms. Rowena Martin, HR Manager of SM City Baliwag gave the opening remarks.  Mr. Nedy Roxas, PESO Baliwag Consultant gave a short message by showing his gratitude to all the participants.  Ms. Elizabeth L. Alonzo, Head of PYSEDO took this occasion to announce the availability of Technical Intern Trainees bound for Japan.  This information came as a result from her recent visit abroad alongside the Mayors of Bulacan.  Ms. May Lynn C. Gozun, Chief Labor and Employment Officer, DOLE-Bulacan extends her appreciation to the Municipality of Baliwag for its invaluable support and cooperation to the jobs and business fair and conveyed the message of DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III to the jobseekers.

Hon. Ferdinand V. Estrella, Municipal Mayor of Baliwag, gave an inspirational message to the eager job seekers. The Municipality of Baliwag as the Center of Trade and Commerce in the Province of Bulacan has huge number of employment opportunities prioritizing the Baliwageños but also opening its door to the residents of its nearby towns and provinces. Furthermore, Mayor Ferdie Estrella dreams that in the near future, employment, entrepreneurial and livelihood opportunities will be accessible to all Baliwageños and there is no need to seek opportunities outside the municipality or overseas.

More than one thousand jobseekers flocked the Jobs and Business Fair with 60 local and overseas agencies and companies offering thousands of employment opportunities hence providing job search assistance, more job options and immediate hiring for the eager job seekers in one venue.  A total of 383 or 34% were Hired on the Spot (HOTS), 19% higher than the target.

To formally close the program, Ms. Jennelyn G. Marcelo, OIC-PESO Manager, Baliwag,  also gave her gratitude to all the participants and partner companies and agencies for actively participating in the Jobs and Business Fair.

True to the brand of governance of Mayor Ferdie Estrella “Serbisyong May Malasakit” LGU Baliwag will continue to strive more in order to offer employment, entrepreneurial and livelihood opportunities to the Baliwageños.
